HCC-Tata Projects JV has secured a INR 2,191 crore contract from MPMRCL for Indore Metro Phase 1's first 8.65-km underground corridor. This segment, the metro's only underground section, includes 11.32 km of tunnels and seven stations at key locations like Indore Railway Station and Airport. The corridor will enhance city connectivity, easing congestion and improving accessibility. HCC, holding a 55% stake in the JV, brings extensive metro experience, with ongoing projects in Mumbai and Chennai. Using tunnel boring machines (TBM) for precision and minimal surface disruption, the project will ensure efficient metro operations, reinforcing HCC's role in urban transit infrastructure.
Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (HCC) and Tata Projects Ltd have secured a INR 2,191 crore contract from Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MPMRCL) for the Indore Metro Phase 1 project. The joint venture, in which HCC holds a 55% stake, will be responsible for constructing an 8.65-km-long underground corridor, including tunnels and stations.
The Indore Metro Phase 1 project spans a total of 31.32 km, with the newly awarded contract, Package IN-05R, being its only underground section. This segment is a crucial part of the metro network, enhancing connectivity in the city.
As part of the contract, the project will involve the construction of 11.32 km of underground tunnels using a tunnel boring machine (TBM). This method ensures efficient and precise tunnelling while minimising surface disruptions.
The package also includes the development of seven underground stations at key locations: Indore Railway Station, Rajwada, Chota Ganpati, Bada Ganpati, Ramchandra Nagar, BSF/Kalani Nagar, and Airport. These stations will improve accessibility and provide seamless transit options for commuters.
Additionally, the underground corridor will connect a ramp located east of Indore Railway Station to another ramp west of Airport Station, facilitating smooth metro operations along the route.
HCC has significant experience in metro construction and is actively engaged in multiple projects. It is currently working on Mumbai Metro Line III, where it is constructing 4 km of twin tunnels along with four stations. Additionally, the company is executing two project packages for the Chennai Metro, further strengthening its expertise in urban transit infrastructure.
The new contract reinforces HCC's role in India's metro infrastructure development. Indore Metro is expected to enhance urban mobility in the city, easing congestion and improving connectivity.
