Synopsis

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has announced a 6,000-acre township project in Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT), aiming to house 3 lakh residents. Spread across 14 villages, including Bhauli and Purwa, this marks LDA's first major development on Sitapur Road in 40 years. A dedicated committee will oversee land acquisition and planning. Modeled after large-scale urban projects like Navi Mumbai and Gurugram, the township will feature modern infrastructure, green spaces, and commercial hubs, reducing pressure on Lucknow's existing residential areas. With surveys underway, the project is set to transform the city's urban landscape.

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has announced plans to develop a 6,000-acre township in the Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) area. This large-scale project aims to provide housing for approximately 300,000 residents, addressing the city's growing demand for planned urban development. The LDA has identified land across 14 villages, including Bhauli, Baurumau, Dhatingra, Goparamau, Lakshmipur, and Purwa, as part of this expansion. The initiative marks LDA's first major project on Sitapur Road in nearly four decades, following the development of Jankipuram and Jankipuram Extension.

To ensure a smooth land acquisition process, LDA Vice-Chairman Prathamesh Kumar has formed a dedicated committee led by Secretary Vivek Srivastava. Other key members include Chief Town Planner Kaushwendra Gautam, Land Acquisition Officer (Arjan), and Executive Engineer (Zone 5). This team will oversee the planning, land acquisition, and execution of the project while ensuring adherence to urban planning regulations. LDA officials have stated that the township will include modern amenities, green spaces, and essential infrastructure to support the expanding population and improve overall livability in the region.

Similar large-scale urban development projects have been implemented across India to accommodate rapid population growth and urbanization. Navi Mumbai, developed in the 1970s by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), spans over 344 square kilometers and now houses over a million residents. It was designed to decongest Mumbai by offering well-planned residential, commercial, and industrial zones.

Another example is New Town in Kolkata, which was developed in the late 1990s by the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO). Covering approximately 100 square kilometers, New Town was planned as an integrated city with residential, commercial, and recreational spaces to accommodate Kolkata's growing population.

Similarly, Gurugram in Haryana has transformed from a small town into a major satellite city of Delhi. Spanning about 732 square kilometers, it has become a hub for multinational corporations, luxury housing, and commercial complexes, thanks to both government and private sector investments.

The LDA's new township in Bakshi Ka Talab follows a similar approach, focusing on strategic urban planning and infrastructure development. The project is expected to ease pressure on existing residential areas in Lucknow and provide an alternative for homebuyers and investors. Additionally, it has the potential to boost economic activity in the region by attracting commercial investments, generating employment opportunities, and improving connectivity.

With the survey already underway, LDA is expected to finalize the detailed township plan soon. Once land acquisition and necessary approvals are completed, development will move into the implementation phase. Drawing from the experiences of cities like Navi Mumbai, New Town, and Gurugram, this project is set to significantly enhance Lucknow's urban landscape, providing a modern and well-planned residential hub for its residents.
