Synopsis

The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation intensified its action against illegal constructions by demolishing six structures and clearing eight encroachments in different areas of the city. Additionally, officials sealed five unauthorized shops in Pritam Nagar, Barewal Road, and 200 Feet Road. Industrial buildings and a labor quarter under construction were also razed, along with multiple encroachments near Krishna Mandir and Amardas Colony. This crackdown follows a series of past actions, including demolitions in Star Road, Tajpur Road, and Lohara, highlighting the MC's continued efforts to curb unauthorized development. However, the drive faced resistance from shopkeepers in Model Town Extension, who accused authorities of selective action.

In a major drive against unauthorized constructions, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation took strict action by demolishing six illegal structures and clearing eight encroachments across different parts of the city earlier this week. Additionally, officials from the building branch sealed five unauthorized shops that were under construction in Pritam Nagar, Barewal Road, and 200 Feet Road.

According to civic authorities, three under-construction industrial buildings in Kundanpuri were demolished, along with a labor quarter in Pritam Nagar. Similarly, two illegal shops in Pritam Nagar were also pulled down.

Regarding the sealed shops, officials stated that one was located in Pritam Nagar, three on Barewal Road, and one on 200 Feet Road. Meanwhile, over half a dozen encroachments in the form of sheds were removed from the market near Krishna Mandir in Model Town Extension, and two encroachments built on road portions in Amardas Colony were also demolished.

The crackdown sparked protests from shopkeepers in the Model Town Extension market, who alleged that civic officials were selectively targeting certain structures while sparing others.

Over the past several months, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has intensified its crackdown on illegal construction, demolishing unauthorized buildings across various parts of the city. Key actions include the demolition of eight illegal structures in Star Road and Bapu Market earlier this year, ten commercial buildings and an unauthorized colony three weeks ago, and multiple under-construction structures on Tajpur Road and in Lohara over the past eight months. These efforts reflect the MC's ongoing commitment to curbing unauthorized developments despite repeated violations.

The recent demolition and sealing drive by the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation underscores its commitment to curbing unauthorized constructions and encroachments. While these actions aim to enforce city planning regulations, they have also triggered dissatisfaction among local shopkeepers who claim unfair targeting. Moving forward, greater transparency and consistency in enforcement may help in addressing such concerns while ensuring compliance with municipal regulations.
