Synopsis

Raipur is undergoing rapid transformation with major infrastructure projects like the INR 20,000 crore Raipur-Visakhapatnam Expressway, expected to cut travel time to 6-7 hours by 2025. An MoU with Russia's Transport Ministry will introduce a INR 400-500 crore Metrolite transit system linking Raipur to Durg and Bhilai. Under the Smart City Mission, the city has allocated INR 2,000 crore for FY26, prioritizing traffic and urban upgrades. Naya Raipur's development includes a 130-acre Sports City and a INR 2,000 crore Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in Sector 22. Together, these projects position Raipur as a rising urban and industrial hub in central India.

Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, is undergoing significant infrastructural transformations aimed at enhancing connectivity, urban mobility, and economic growth. These developments are marked by substantial financial investments and strategic collaborations.

The Raipur-Visakhapatnam Expressway is a 464.662-kilometer six-lane greenfield expressway designed to connect Raipur in Chhattisgarh to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The project is being developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative with an estimated cost of INR 20,000 crore. The expressway is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities from approximately 13 hours to 6-7 hours, thereby facilitating smoother movement of goods and people across these states. The project is slated for completion by 2025.

To enhance urban transportation, the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation for the development of a light metro transit system. The proposed Metrolite project aims to connect key areas within Raipur and extend to neighboring regions like Durg and Bhilai. The estimated budget for this project is projected to be between INR 400-500 crore. This initiative is expected to provide a cost-effective and efficient public transport solution to address the growing traffic congestion in the region.

Adjacent to Raipur, Naya Raipur (also known as Atal Nagar) is being developed as a planned city with state-of-the-art infrastructure. The Naya Raipur Atal Nagar Vikas Pradhikaran (NRANVP) is overseeing various projects, including residential sectors, world-class health facilities, and educational institutions, aiming to create a sustainable urban environment. One notable project is the development of a 130-acre Sports City through Public-Private Partnership (PPP), reflecting the city's commitment to promoting sports and recreation.

Under the Smart City Mission, Raipur is implementing multiple projects to enhance urban living. These include the development of multi-level parking facilities, rejuvenation of ponds, and modernization of markets like Jawahar Market. The Raipur Municipal Corporation has unveiled a budget of INR 2,000 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26, with a focus on traffic management and smart city development. This budget allocation represents an increase of INR 100 crore from the previous year, underscoring the city's commitment to urban development.

To boost economic development, an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster is being established in Sector 22 of Naya Raipur. The cluster is projected to attract investments worth around INR 2,000 crore and is expected to house approximately 61 industries. This initiative aims to create a world-class ecosystem for electronics manufacturing industries, featuring facilities such as a product design house, tool room, and testing and calibration centers.
