Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched seven key infrastructure projects in Guwahati worth INR 1,776 crore. Highlights include a new Raj Bhavan in Kharghuli and a Police Commissionerate at Khanapara to strengthen governance and law enforcement. To solve the city's water issues, the South-Central and South-East Guwahati Water Supply Projects aim to serve lakhs of households, backed by JICA and ADB support. A new rail-cum-road bridge worth INR 996.75 crore will improve connectivity and ease traffic. These developments, supported by the Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Program, focus on better water, sanitation, and urban services-marking a major step in Guwahati's urban transformation.

Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for seven major infrastructure projects in Guwahati, collectively valued at INR 1,776 crore. Among these, the construction of a new Raj Bhavan at Kharghuli stands out, with an allocation of INR 41.32 crore and an expected completion timeline of 18 months. This initiative aims to provide a modern residence for the state's governor, symbolizing the city's evolving architectural landscape. Additionally, the establishment of a new Police Commissionerate at Khanapara underscores the administration's commitment to enhancing law enforcement infrastructure in the rapidly expanding metropolis.

Guwahati's longstanding challenge of ensuring a continuous potable water supply is being tackled through multiple projects. The South-Central Guwahati Water Supply Project, backed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), aims to serve approximately 1.5 lakh households. Despite partial commissioning in December 2023, the project faced delays, with full completion anticipated by September-October 2024. Concurrently, the South-East Guwahati Water Supply Project, part of the Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Program (AUIIP) and supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has a completion deadline set for 2029. These endeavors are crucial in addressing the city's water scarcity issues and meeting the needs of its growing population.

Connectivity within Guwahati is poised for a boost with the sanctioning of a new rail-cum-road bridge project worth INR 996.75 crore. This initiative aims to improve transportation efficiency, reduce congestion, and facilitate smoother movement of goods and people across the city. Such projects are integral to Guwahati's vision of becoming a more accessible and commuter-friendly urban center.

The Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Program (AUIIP) plays a pivotal role in Guwahati's urban development narrative. With support from the ADB, the program focuses on improving water supply, sanitation, solid waste management, and drainage systems. By financing a portion of the state's urban infrastructure initiatives, the AUIIP aims to elevate the quality of urban services, thereby enhancing the overall living standards of Guwahati's residents.

These multifaceted projects collectively signify a transformative phase for Guwahati, addressing critical aspects of urban infrastructure and setting the stage for a more sustainable and prosperous future.
