?Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, is undergoing a significant transformation through a series of ambitious infrastructure projects. Itanagar is introducing a ropeway system and electric buses. The ropeway aims to provide an alternative mode of transportation, reducing traffic congestion and offering a scenic commute. Complementing this, the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) is collaborating with Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services (APSTS) to deploy 10 electric buses in the capital. This initiative is part of a broader plan to expand electric bus services, contingent on the success of initial trials, and underscores the city's commitment to sustainable urban mobility.
Addressing the critical issue of parking in the city, a multi-storey parking facility has been inaugurated under the Itanagar Smart City initiative. Constructed by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) at an approximate cost of INR 18.09 crore, the facility accommodates 108 cars across eight towers. It features modern amenities such as a control room, waiting area, elevators, power backup, drainage, and mechanical ventilation. The top floor houses a cafeteria and a gymnasium, adding to its utility. ?
The construction of National Highway 415 (NH-415), a vital project aimed at improving connectivity within Itanagar and linking key areas like Banderdewa and Nirjuli, has encountered delays. Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed concerns over the progress and indicated the possibility of terminating the contract with the current firm responsible for an 11-kilometer stretch due to unsatisfactory performance. This underscores the government's commitment to ensuring timely completion of infrastructure projects.
The state government has demonstrated a strong commitment to infrastructure development. Recently, 14 projects worth INR 102 crore were inaugurated, and foundations for 21 new projects valued at INR 126 crore were laid.
In the energy sector, the construction of a 132KV double circuit transmission line from Hoz to Itanagar, including a 2x20 MVA, 132/33 KV substation at Chimpu, is underway. This project aims to enhance the city's power supply, ensuring reliable electricity for residents and businesses.
The Donyi Polo Airport, inaugurated in November 2022, has significantly improved air connectivity for Itanagar. Located in Hollongi, the airport serves as a gateway to the capital, facilitating travel and promoting economic activities. The airport features a 2,300-meter runway capable of accommodating narrow-body aircraft, with provisions for future expansion.
These multifaceted infrastructure projects collectively signify a transformative era for Itanagar, positioning it as a modern, connected, and sustainable city.
