MHADA will construct 19,497 housing units in FY 2025-26, allocating INR 9,202.76 crore to address Maharashtra's housing needs. Mumbai tops the list with 5,199 units and INR 5,749.49 crore earmarked, including INR 2,800 crore for BDD chawl redevelopment. Other allocations include 9,902 units in Konkan, 1,836 in Pune, and 1,608 in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Redevelopment projects in Jogeshwari, Bandra, and Goregaon are also funded. MHADA's push aligns with broader efforts to improve housing access across income groups and support regional urban development.

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has announced plans to construct 19,497 housing units across the state during the financial year 2025-26, with a budget allocation of INR 9,202.76 crore. This initiative aims to address the increasing demand for affordable housing in Maharashtra.

In Mumbai, MHADA plans to build 5,199 units, allocating INR 5,749.49 crore. The Konkan board will develop 9,902 units with INR 1,408.85 crore, while Pune's target is 1,836 units with INR 585.97 crore. Nagpur will see 692 units constructed, supported by INR 1,009.33 crore. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar aims for 1,608 units with INR 231.10 crore allocated. Nashik plans 91 units with a budget of INR 86 crore, and Amravati is set to build 169 units with INR 65.96 crore earmarked.

A significant portion of the budget focuses on redevelopment projects in Mumbai. Notably, INR 2,800 crore is dedicated to the redevelopment of BDD chawls in Worli, Naigaon, and Parel. Additionally, INR 350 crore is allocated for the PMGP Colony redevelopment in Jogeshwari East, INR 205 crore for the Paridhi Khadi project in Bandra West, and INR 573 crore for constructing housing units at Siddharth Nagar, Goregaon.

Similar initiatives have been undertaken in other states to provide affordable housing. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) launched the "DDA Sasta Ghar Housing Scheme 2025," offering approximately 34,000 flats on a first-come, first-served basis, with prices starting at INR 11.5 lakh. These units are located in areas like Ramgarh Colony, Siraspur, Loknayakpuram, Rohini, and Narela.

In Tamil Nadu, the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) has initiated several projects to provide affordable housing. For instance, in Nerkundram Village, Chennai, TNHB is constructing 570 multistoried residential flats, including 228 High-Income Group (HIG) flats and 342 Middle-Income Group (MIG) flats. Additionally, TNHB has projects like 60 flats at Ganapathy, Coimbatore, 240 flats at Shenoy Nagar, Chennai, and 2,394 flats at Ambattur, Chennai, aiming to cater to various income groups.

MHADA's comprehensive plan reflects a commitment to improving housing availability and urban development across Maharashtra, addressing the needs of various regions and income groups.
