The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has increased rebates for advance property tax payments for FY 2025-26, offering up to 15% in incentives. The advance payment rebate has been raised from 10% to 12%, with an additional 1% for online payments and 2% for consistent digital taxpayers over three years. Last year, AMC collected INR 770 crore through early payments, and for FY 2025-26, it expects INR 800-900 crore in advance tax collections. The budget maintains existing tax rates, offering 70% relief for trust-run hospitals and full vehicle tax exemption for EVs.
In a recent move to encourage timely tax payments, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced a new rebate scheme for property tax payments made in advance for the fiscal year 2025-26. Citizens who choose to pay their property tax early can benefit from a rebate of up to 15%. This decision comes as part of the AMC's budget approval, which amounts to INR 15,502 crore for the upcoming year.
The rebate for advance payments has been raised from 10% to 12%, providing a stronger incentive for residents to pay early. In addition, taxpayers can earn further discounts: 1% for making payments online and an additional 2% if they have consistently paid their advance tax online for the past three years. This initiative aims to streamline tax collection and promote digital transactions among residents.
In the previous fiscal year, the AMC initiated the advance property tax scheme from April 9 to May 31, 2024, collecting approximately INR 770 crore from 5.82 lakh taxpayers. The total discounts provided during this period amounted to INR 80 crore. For the 2025-26 fiscal year, the AMC anticipates advance tax collections to range between INR 800 crore and INR 900 crore, with expected discounts between INR 100 crore and INR 125 crore. This reflects the AMC's ongoing efforts to enhance revenue while supporting taxpayers.
The approved budget for 2025-26 maintains the current tax rates for both property and vehicles, ensuring that residents will not face any increases. Existing concessions remain in place, including a 70% property tax relief for trust-operated hospitals and clinics located in corporation-owned buildings. Additionally, electric vehicles continue to enjoy total exemption from vehicle tax, promoting environmental sustainability.
As the AMC prepares to roll out the advance property tax payment scheme in April, officials encourage residents to take advantage of the enhanced rebates and discounts. By paying early and online, taxpayers can significantly reduce their tax liabilities while contributing to the city's revenue. This initiative not only supports the financial health of the municipality but also fosters a culture of timely tax compliance among citizens.
Overall, the AMC's proactive approach in offering increased rebates and maintaining stable tax rates reflects a commitment to balancing the needs of the city with the financial capabilities of its residents. As Ahmedabad continues to grow, such measures are essential in ensuring sustainable development and civic responsibility.
