The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) conducted its ninth Lokshahi Din earlier this week, reaffirming its commitment to timely grievance redressal. Under the decisive leadership of Vice President and CEO Mr. Sanjeev Jaiswal, IAS, five long-pending cases were resolved on the spot, offering immediate relief to applicants. This initiative reflects MHADA's broader efforts to deliver transparent and citizen-focused governance.


Lokshahi Din, introduced by the Maharashtra government, provides a platform for addressing public grievances swiftly. Since its inception, MHADA has been a key participant, using these hearings to tackle housing-related disputes involving administrative, legal, and financial complexities. To date, MHADA has resolved 75 out of 81 cases submitted across nine hearings, marking a success rate of over 92%.

During this week's hearing, applicants at MHADA's Bandra (East) headquarters expressed gratitude for the organisation's efficient handling of their concerns. Among the cases addressed, Mr. Amrut Kore, who had been waiting since 2004 for the regularisation of his MHADA flat in Kandivali (West), finally received resolution. Mr. Jaiswal directed the Estate Manager to complete the process by the afternoon, and the confirmation letter was handed to Mr. Kore the same day, bringing his 21-year struggle to an end.

Another case involved Mr. Fitzgerald Ozario, whose application to transfer ownership of a redeveloped flat in Mumbai Central had stalled due to the absence of an inheritance certificate. Recognising the urgency of the matter, Mr. Jaiswal instructed officials to accept an indemnity bond as an alternative, ensuring the property was transferred to Mr. Ozario's name that very day.

Mr. Mohammad Khan, a winner of the Konkan Board's 20% inclusive housing scheme lottery, had been charged excessive fees for parking and clubhouse facilities he had not opted for. Mr. Jaiswal personally intervened, contacting the developer and ordering the immediate removal of the additional charges, thereby providing financial relief.

Similarly, Mr. Anil Prabhulkar's case related to a flat in Kandivali (West), gifted by his brother in 2016, had remained unresolved due to non-registration. Mr. Jaiswal directed officials to regularise the flat immediately, and the applicant was issued a confirmation letter during the hearing itself.

In a notable case, Mr. Dilip Suryavanshi, a resident of Shivneri Cooperative Housing Society in New D.N. Nagar, had been awaiting possession of his redeveloped flat. Mr. Jaiswal directed the sub-registrar to expedite the process and appointed an authorised officer to ensure the possession was completed within seven days.

Other grievances were also addressed, including one from Mr. Deepak Rane, representing a redeveloped building in MHADA Colony, New Chikhalwadi. He requested MHADA to take maintenance responsibility for the structure, and Mr. Jaiswal directed officials to proceed with the handover formalities as per the housing society's request. Additionally, Mr. Arun Bhoyar of Kannamwar Nagar, Vikhroli, who had been incorrectly penalised with late fees despite timely payments, was assured of an audit without further hearings.
