Synopsis

Bihar Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar transferred INR 1,200 crore to 3 lakh families under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) in a direct benefit transfer event. The state has a total target of constructing 7.9 lakh houses under PMAY-G for FY 2024-25. Each beneficiary receives INR 1.20 lakh in three installments, with INR 40,000 disbursed as the first installment. Additionally, recipients receive INR 22,050 under MGNREGA for 90 days of labor and INR 12,000 for toilet construction under Lohia Swachh Bihar Abhiyan, bringing total assistance to INR 1,54,050 per household. The scheme aims to boost rural infrastructure and housing development in Bihar.

Bihar Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar recently transferred INR 1,200 crore to 3 lakh families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). This direct benefit transfer, executed with a single click during an event held at the 'Sankalp' hall of his residence, marks the first instalment of assistance under the scheme. The move aims to provide immediate support to families and accelerate the development of rural infrastructure in Bihar.

During the event, Revenue Minister A Satya Prasad, speaking in the state Assembly at Patna, confirmed that the state had received a construction target from the Centre. In September 2024, the government was allocated a target of constructing 2,43,903 houses under the PMAY-G. Furthermore, on January 27 this year, the Union Ministry of Rural Development provided an additional target of 5,46,745 houses. In total, for the financial year 2024-25, the state is expected to build 790,648 houses under the PMAY-G framework.

The revised policy for PMAY-G offers beneficiaries a total assistance of INR 1.20 lakh per household, disbursed in three installments as the construction progresses. As explained by Rural Development Department (RDD) Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh, at least 60 percent of the funds are provided by the central government, while the remaining 40 percent is contributed by the state. Consequently, each beneficiary receives INR 48,000 as the state's share in the first instalment.

An official statement from the Chief Minister's Office detailed that on this day, each beneficiary received INR 40,000, cumulatively amounting to INR 1,200 crore paid to 3 lakh families. The government has scheduled further disbursements over the next 100 days. Beneficiaries are set to receive INR 80,000 each as the second and third instalments. In addition to these payments, the scheme provides supplementary financial assistance to support broader welfare initiatives.

Each beneficiary will receive an additional INR 22,050 as remuneration for 90 days of unskilled labour under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and another INR 12,000 specifically for toilet construction under the Lohia Swachh Bihar Abhiyan. This comprehensive support package ensures that every beneficiary ultimately receives a total of INR 1,54,050.

The event was attended by several senior officials, including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar, Chief Secretary Amritlal Meena, and various other administrative heads. District magistrates and beneficiaries also participated via video conferencing, reflecting the wide-scale impact and importance of the scheme.
