The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has intensified its crackdown on property tax defaulters, sealing Anand Restaurant in Zone 10 for failing to pay INR 5.92 lakh in dues since 2019-20. Despite multiple notices, the owner did not respond, prompting action under Commissioner Abinash Mishra's directive. The move serves as a warning to other defaulters, reinforcing the city's commitment to tax recovery. RMC has also conducted door-to-door tax collection and updated property tax assessments to improve compliance. The municipality vows continued enforcement to ensure timely payments, strengthen revenue collection, and maintain financial order.
The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has stepped up its enforcement against property tax defaulters, taking firm action in Zone 10. In a demonstration of its zero-tolerance policy, RMC officials sealed Anand Restaurant, a well-known establishment in Ward 52, for failing to clear property tax dues amounting to INR 5,92,354, pending since the 2019-20 financial year.
The action was carried out under the directives of RMC Commissioner Abinash Mishra after repeated attempts to recover the dues through demand bills, notices, and a final warning were ignored by the restaurant's owner, Ashutosh Sharma. Zone 10 officials supervised the sealing operation, reinforcing the municipality's commitment to recovering unpaid taxes and maintaining financial order.
An RMC spokesperson highlighted that this action was intended as a strong message to all defaulters, warning that strict measures would be taken to recover outstanding dues. Property owners were urged to pay their taxes on time to avoid similar consequences.
This crackdown is part of a broader effort by the RMC to strengthen tax collection. In a previous initiative, the Revenue Department conducted a door-to-door tax collection drive in Zone 8, issuing property tax demand notices to 5,175 taxpayers across seven wards. This campaign, overseen by then RMC Commissioner Saurabh Kumar, was aimed at improving compliance and boosting municipal revenue.
Additionally, the RMC has been proactive in updating property tax assessment processes, providing resources on its official website for property owners to verify and correct property details. This initiative ensures accurate tax calculations and promotes timely payments, reducing instances of default.
With this intensified enforcement, the municipal corporation has vowed to continue its efforts against defaulters until all outstanding property taxes are collected. The ongoing crackdown serves as a warning to property owners, urging them to comply with tax regulations to avoid severe penalties. Moving forward, the municipality's determined approach is expected to ensure better adherence to tax obligations and strengthen revenue collection efforts.
