Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis recently conducted a review of ongoing and proposed BMC infrastructure projects worth INR 2 lakh crore. He instructed officials to expedite the work and ensure timely completion.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde, who was present during the review, suggested that BMC consider setting up a helipad along the coastal road. The helipad could be developed on a temporary jetty created for the coastal road project near Worli Dairy. A civic official explained that two jetties had been built, one near Amarsons Garden, which has since been dismantled, and another at Worli.

Among the key directives issued by the Chief Minister was the development of a parking facility for 1,200 vehicles at Haji Ali, the implementation of artificial intelligence in drain cleaning operations, and the swift processing of tenders for several significant projects. These include the Mulund bird sanctuary, Deonar biomining project, modernisation of Deonar slaughterhouse, Mumbai Central Park at Mahalaxmi, and the Gargai water supply project, with all tender procedures required to be completed within a month.

BMC is undertaking infrastructure, water supply, sewage treatment, and health department projects worth approximately INR 1.41 lakh crore. These encompass the concretisation of around 700km of roads, the Versova-Bhayander coastal road, the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, and multiple bridges, including those at Gokhale, Vikhroli, Carnac, Sion, Bellasis, Mahalaxmi, and Madh-Versova.

Additionally, the civic body is working on the rejuvenation of the Dahisar, Poisar, and Oshiwara rivers, as well as the cleaning of the Mithi river. Seven sewage treatment projects are also in progress, with those at Versova, Malad, Bhandup, and Ghatkopar already underway.

The review further encompassed the redevelopment of KEM, Sion, and Nair hospitals, the construction of new hospitals, and the establishment of parking and commercial centres at Dahisar West and Mankhurd. Other upcoming projects, such as the Panjrapole water purification facility, the Mankhurd transport centre, and the expansion of Byculla gardens and zoo, were also discussed.

Fadnavis underscored the necessity of expediting the execution of these projects and directed officials to finalise tender procedures for the proposed works within a month. He particularly highlighted the significance of the Gargai water supply project for Mumbai's future and instructed that rehabilitation and associated works be completed at the earliest.

BMC officials informed the Chief Minister that a total of 2,000km of roads in Mumbai will be concretised using cement, ensuring that 80% of the roads become pothole-free.

The review of BMC's infrastructure projects underscored the government's commitment to enhancing Mumbai's civic amenities. These initiatives aim to transform Mumbai's urban landscape, ensuring better connectivity and improved civic facilities for its residents.
