The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to adopt the Bharat Bill Collection System (BBPS) as an additional option of property tax collection beginning with the 2019 fiscal year. This program intends to make it easier for taxpayers to make payments using mobile apps in addition to existing online and offline ways. The civic authority has already initiated the process of collaborating with a bank to adopt this system. BMC currently accepts property tax payments via debit or credit cards, internet banking, or in person with cash, checks, or demand drafts. The corporation is also focusing on implementing the Unit Area Assessment (UAA) system, which will standardize property tax collection throughout all 41 wards. With these approaches, BMC hopes to increase revenue, raising its collection target from INR 40 crore last year to INR 44 crore for the coming fiscal year.

Bidhannagar taxpayers currently pay property tax using debit or credit cards and online banking, or by visiting specified bank branches and paying in cash, cheques, or demand drafts. BMC thinks that by implementing BBPS, it would streamline the payment process and enhance tax income. For the next fiscal year, the local government has increased its property tax collection target from INR 40 crore to INR 44 crore.
BMC is also focusing on creating a Unit Area Assessment (UAA) system to create a unified property tax structure across all 41 wards. This technique is designed to increase transparency and efficiency in tax calculations, resulting in fair assessments for property owners.
BMC's decision to use BBPS is a step toward modernizing property tax payments, providing taxpayers with additional flexibility and simplicity of payment. By incorporating digital technologies, the civic body hopes to increase efficiency while increasing income collections. Furthermore, the decision to apply the UAA system represents a larger effort to streamline property taxation across Bidhannagar's 41 wards. These projects demonstrate the municipality's commitment to enhancing tax compliance and financial sustainability, which benefits both taxpayers and the administration.
