MHADA to hold Janata Din twice a month for faster grievance redressal

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has chosen to hold Janata Din twice a month for all divisional boards in an attempt to enhance the redress of public grievances. This effort, led by MHADA Vice President and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal, IAS, is a critical component of the organization's 100-day action plan. It aims to give individuals direct access to grievance resolution systems, with plans in place to allow applicants to participate via video conferencing from their respective districts.


The 100-day action plan, devised under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and guided by Deputy Chief Minister and Housing Minister Eknath Shinde, is currently being implemented across all MHADA divisions. Mr. Jaiswal undertook a thorough evaluation of its progress at MHADA headquarters and provided orders to guarantee its timely and efficient execution. He emphasized the importance of obtaining immediate administrative and technical permissions for projects under the seven-point action plan, as well as the posting of tenders within a week. To expedite execution, the tender procedure schedule for these projects would be decreased, according to a newly implemented decision.

To increase efficiency, MHADA divisional offices have been instructed to conduct cleanliness drives and submit compliance reports accompanied by photographic evidence. Furthermore, steps are being taken to improve public amenities, such as the installation of visible signboards, suitable sitting arrangements for tourists, clean drinking water facilities, and accessibility modifications such as ramps for the disabled. The establishment of Hirakani Kaksha, a specialized facility in each divisional office with essential amenities for breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women, represents a significant step toward inclusivity.

In an attempt to increase private sector involvement in MHADA's housing projects, Mr. Jaiswal has reminded divisional boards to get in touch with possible investors and developers. Furthermore, all divisional officers are obliged to visit project locations on Tuesdays and submit status reports. To guarantee that the action plan is carried out smoothly, MHADA's divisional boards will work with the information technology department and assign committed people to update the official website on a regular basis.

The status of housing developments under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) was an important agenda topic at the review meeting. Mr. Jaiswal directed officials to expedite beneficiary geotagging and integration into the Management Information System (MIS) portal without delay. In addition, he oversaw the development of a proposal to increase citizen services under the Public Services Guarantee Act.

MHADA has a history of hosting public grievance redressal sessions through its 'Lokshahi Din' campaign. Since 2024, almost 50 grievances have been settled through these meetings. For example, during the fifth Lokshahi Din, which was held on August 12, 2024, nine petitions were reviewed and directions for immediate action were issued. On February 10, 2025, the ninth Lokshahi Din addressed five long-standing issues on the spot, including a flat regularization case that had been pending since 2004. Furthermore, MHADA has launched projects like the E-Mitra platform, which offers downloadable forms and booklets to help individuals address their problems more effectively.

The meeting was attended by MHADA's senior executives, including Chief Engineers Maheshkumar Jeswani and Shivkumar Aade, Finance Controller Ajaysingh Pawar, Secretary Neelima Dhaigude, Chief Architect and Planner Pravin Salunkhe, and other significant people.

This renewed emphasis on quick grievance resolution, improved public services, and expedited housing projects underscores MHADA's dedication to enhancing urban housing infrastructure and timely resolution of citizen issues. Janata Din will now be held twice a month, giving residents more opportunities to engage with officials and seek formal and transparent answers to their problems.
