Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the approval of 3.3 lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) for Chhattisgarh at the Morar Awas Mor Adhikar programme in Durg. Since PMAY's launch, 8.47 lakh homes have been sanctioned in the state. Chouhan emphasized enhanced eligibility criteria and the success of the "double-engine government" in delivering housing and rural development. Complementary agricultural initiatives, such as new rice varieties and the "Lakhpati Didi" scheme, aim to boost livelihoods. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel highlighted swift action on housing, while Deputy CM Vijay Sharma outlined rural connectivity projects, marking significant progress in inclusive development.
In a significant move to improve housing for the underprivileged, Union Minister for Agriculture, Panchayat, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced the approval of 3.3 lakh new houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) for Chhattisgarh. Speaking at the Morar Awas Mor Adhikar programme in Nagpura, Durg district, he highlighted the government's commitment to transforming the living conditions of the state's poor.
Chouhan emphasized that the collaboration between the central and state governments, often referred to as a "double-engine government," is crucial for the success of such initiatives. He stated that the promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide housing for all is being realized, with a total of 8,47,000 homes sanctioned in Chhattisgarh since the scheme's inception. The minister also mentioned recent changes to the eligibility criteria, which now allow individuals with an income of up to INR 15,000 and those owning irrigated or non-irrigated land to apply for housing assistance.
In addition to housing, the minister discussed broader agricultural initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of farmers. New crop varieties, particularly rice, are being introduced to enhance yield and diversify production. The "Lakhpati Didi" scheme, which focuses on empowering women in rural areas, is also part of the government's strategy to uplift communities. These efforts reflect a comprehensive approach to rural development, addressing both housing and agricultural productivity.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also addressed attendees, praising the governance model in Chhattisgarh as a benchmark for effective administration. He noted that just one day after taking office, a cabinet meeting was convened to approve 18 lakh houses for the state, illustrating the government's swift action in addressing housing needs. Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh remarked on the strong coordination between the central and state governments, which has led to significant advancements in housing and infrastructure development.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma highlighted the ongoing benefits of PMAY, underscoring that 32,000 houses have recently been approved. He also mentioned the importance of rural connectivity, with 2,449 kilometers of road projects underway to facilitate better access to resources and markets for rural residents. This focus on infrastructure is expected to enhance economic opportunities for the people of Chhattisgarh.
As the government continues to roll out housing projects and agricultural reforms, the focus remains on improving the quality of life for the state's poorest residents. The PMAY initiative, combined with efforts to boost agricultural productivity and rural connectivity, aims to create a more sustainable and prosperous future for the people of Chhattisgarh.
With these developments, Chhattisgarh is poised to make significant strides in housing and rural development, setting an example for other states in India. The commitment to providing homes and improving livelihoods reflects a broader vision for inclusive growth and sustainable development in the region.
