The Maharashtra government is intensifying its push under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), focusing on landless and homeless beneficiaries. At a Konkan Division review meeting, Minister Jayakumar Gore emphasised swift approvals and transparent beneficiary lists at Gram Panchayat offices. The Maharashtra government is intensifying efforts to provide housing for all under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), particularly focusing on the Gharkul beneficiaries. Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jayakumar Gore emphasized the need to prioritize landless and homeless individuals during a recent review meeting in the Konkan Division. Minister Gore pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that housing is a fundamental right for all citizens. In this context, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is closely monitoring the construction quality and speed of housing projects across the state. The government aims to expedite the approval process for housing applications, especially for those who lack land. A separate list will be created for beneficiaries who have land but no homes, ensuring a fair distribution of resources.
To enhance transparency and community engagement, Minister Gore instructed that the names of Gharkul beneficiaries be displayed prominently at the Gram Panchayat offices. This measure will keep villagers informed about the beneficiaries and the progress of housing projects. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of timely delivery of financial installments to ensure that construction progresses without delays. Regular surveys will be conducted to verify eligibility and ensure that all deserving individuals receive support from the scheme.
In tandem with housing initiatives, the government is also focusing on improving livelihoods through self-help groups (SHGs) under the Rural Livelihood Improvement Mission. A robust network of SHGs has been established, and Minister Gore urged officials to enhance the activities of these groups, including farmer producer organizations. By adopting a coordinated approach, the government aims to increase the effectiveness of these groups and their contributions to rural economies.
Minister of State for Rural Development Yogesh Kadam reiterated the importance of physical inspections to guarantee the quality and timely completion of housing projects. He stressed that proper documentation of work progress is crucial for the effective distribution of funds. Regular meetings with SHG leaders will be organized to address challenges and promote the implementation of various schemes, including the Lakhpati Didi Yojana, which aims to empower women and improve their financial independence.
The review meeting also included discussions on other vital schemes such as the B Class Pilgrimage Development Program and the Prime Minister's Tribal Justice Campaign. By evaluating these initiatives, the government seeks to ensure that they meet their objectives and effectively serve the communities they are designed to help.
