The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has requested 15 government land parcels from the state to fast-track several pending development projects. These include initiatives such as 24x7 water supply, road widening in various areas, and the creation of a playground in Shivajinagar. The civic administration highlighted that many projects have been delayed due to the unavailability of land. Once allocated, the state land will help move forward essential projects like roadworks, riverbank beautification, and construction of water tanks. The PMC has secured approval for the land acquisition, which will require INR 25 crore for the 15 parcels.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken the step of requesting 15 government-owned land parcels from the state government to accelerate several ongoing development projects that have been held up due to a lack of available land. These projects, which are essential to improving the city's infrastructure and amenities, have been delayed because suitable land for construction or development was not accessible in key areas. The civic administration has pointed out that, if the government allocates these parcels, it would allow a range of important initiatives to move forward without further obstruction.
Key projects that will benefit from this land allocation include initiatives like the 24x7 water supply system for Pune, which would ensure constant water availability for residents, and road widening projects in areas like Mundhwa. The city is also planning to develop a playground in Shivajinagar, which would provide much-needed recreational space for the local population. These projects have all been on hold, primarily due to the unavailability of land that would enable their progress.
The list of stalled projects extends beyond these three initiatives. For example, there are plans for the construction of water tanks in the Bavdhan and Mhalunge areas, which would ensure a more efficient water distribution system. Road works are also planned for the Kothrud and Ambegaon areas, as well as road widening in Bhamburde and at two locations in Mundhwa, which will ease traffic congestion. Furthermore, the civic administration is looking to develop a sports ground in Shivajinagar and beautify the riverbanks in Sangamwadi, which will help enhance the city's environment and public spaces. There is also a need for land to construct a railway overbridge in Ghorpadi to improve transportation infrastructure and connectivity.
As these developments are tied to government land, which falls under the jurisdiction of the district collector, PMC has to go through a formal process to acquire it. This involves submitting a detailed proposal outlining the intended development work. After this, the district administration gathers feedback from various departments, including the forest department and other local self-government bodies, to ensure that the project does not conflict with any other regulations or environmental considerations. Once the feedback is obtained and verified, the land is measured and its market value assessed, with PMC required to pay the government rate for its acquisition.
For these 15 government land parcels, the PMC estimates a cost of INR 25 crore. The proposal to acquire the land has already been approved during meetings with the standing committee and the general body, which means that once the state government allocates the land, these projects can be swiftly resumed. This will significantly aid the civic administration in fulfilling its commitments to the city's development and improving the quality of life for its residents.
