As of December 2024, Uttar Pradesh has successfully completed 95% of the 17,76,823 houses sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), with 16,71,083 houses already finished. Urban Development Minister AK Sharma emphasised the transparency and dedication behind the project, highlighting the positive impact on the lives of low-income families. The initiative has not only provided affordable homes but also empowered women and promoted economic equality. Despite challenges at the beginning, significant progress has been made under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and the government remains committed to completing the remaining 5% of the project soon.
The urban development minister, AK Sharma, shared that as of December 30, 2024, Uttar Pradesh has made remarkable progress in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Out of the 17,76,823 houses sanctioned for the state, 16,71,083 have already been completed, accounting for nearly 95% of the total housing units.
He expressed that the government's efforts to offer housing benefits to those in need have been carried out with transparency and commitment. According to Sharma, a home is more than just a physical structure; it's a space where dreams are nurtured. He stated that the government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's leadership, has focused on making these dreams a reality for the less privileged. He also praised the BJP government's dedication to serving people from all walks of life.
Sharma pointed out that affordable housing has helped many families save on rent, allowing them to invest in their children's education and health. He added that the initiative has played a significant role in promoting economic equality by helping people from all societal sections secure a home and live harmoniously.
He further highlighted how the scheme has empowered women, noting that it mandates the female head of the family to be either the sole owner or a co-owner of the house. This provision has not only enhanced the sense of security among women but also encouraged them to pursue job opportunities and contribute to their family's financial well-being.
Reflecting on the challenges the scheme faced during its early stages, Sharma acknowledged the difficulties before the Yogi Adityanath government took charge in 2017. He reassured that since then, the state government has worked relentlessly to drive the project forward, and the results are visible today. Finally, the minister assured that the government is committed to completing the remaining 5% of the housing units soon.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) has made significant strides in Uttar Pradesh, with 95% of the sanctioned houses completed as of December 2024. Urban Development Minister AK Sharma credited the success to the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the government's commitment to providing affordable housing. The initiative has benefited many families by offering financial stability, promoting social equity, and empowering women. Despite initial challenges, the state government remains determined to complete the project in the near future, helping ensure more families have access to their own homes.
