Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde highlighted the pivotal role of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in shaping Maharashtra's development during an event commemorating MMRDA's 50th anniversary at the Convention Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex.


He noted that the MMRDA is the foundation of the state's progress, blending development, heritage, and culture to transform the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The authority's work spans 6,500 square kilometres, impacting a population of 3.5 crore across Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar.

The Deputy Chief Minister stated that MMRDA oversees projects worth over INR 3 lakh crore, with ambitions to contribute INR 1.5 trillion to the state's economy. He expressed confidence in the authority's ability to drive foreign direct investment and position the region as a global financial hub. Additionally, he announced the implementation of slum rehabilitation projects through collaboration with other government bodies, ensuring timely completion of these initiatives.

Information Technology Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar lauded MMRDA's achievements over the past five decades and wished it similar success in the future. The event saw the release of the authority's emblem and coffee table book, along with a cultural programme titled Marathi Bana. Deputy Chief Minister Shinde and other dignitaries honoured MMRDA's branches and officers for their contributions.

The 50th anniversary of MMRDA highlighted its vital contributions to Maharashtra's development and its ambitious future plans. As a key player in urban planning and infrastructure, the authority continues to drive economic growth and enhance the quality of life in the region.
