The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has launched the e-AASTHI Tax Mela to facilitate property registration and tax payment, aiming to achieve full implementation of the digital system. Inaugurated by District Minister Santosh Lad, the mela offers dedicated counters for online registration and document updates. With 100,000 of 330,000 properties already registered, HDMC aims to improve compliance and reach its INR 141 crore tax target by March 2025. The initiative provides on-the-spot assistance, enhancing public services and encouraging timely tax payments to support the region's financial health and governance.
The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has launched an e-AASTHI Tax Mela to encourage residents to register their properties and settle outstanding property tax dues. The initiative, which began on Friday, aims to streamline the property registration process and enhance revenue collection for the municipality.
The e-AASTHI system, which requires property owners to register their properties digitally, is crucial for maintaining accurate property records. HDMC has been actively promoting this system, emphasizing the importance of timely property tax payments to avoid penalties. The tax mela features five dedicated counters where residents can apply for online registration, clear their tax dues, and update property documents.
District Minister Santosh Lad inaugurated the event, urging citizens to take advantage of the facilities offered at the mela. He noted that this presents a valuable opportunity for property owners to verify their documentation and clear any outstanding taxes. The HDMC plans to hold similar events at its headquarters and zonal offices on the first and third Saturdays of February, providing ongoing support to residents.
According to PB Vishwanath, HDMC's Chief Accounts Officer, the mela is a step towards achieving complete implementation of the e-AASTHI system. Currently, there are approximately 330,000 properties in the Hubballi-Dharwad area, with over 100,000 already registered under e-AASTHI. HDMC aims to cover all properties in the region, improving tax collection efficiency in the process.
Last year, HDMC collected INR 117 crore in property taxes, with a target of INR 141 crore by the end of March 2025. As of now, they have collected around INR 115 crore, indicating strong progress towards their goal. The HDMC has also introduced computer-generated online receipts for property registration, allowing residents to access their records easily.
The tax mela not only simplifies the registration process but also provides on-the-spot assistance to citizens. HDMC officials will be available to help with documentation and answer any questions. This initiative reflects the municipality's commitment to enhancing public services and ensuring that all property owners are compliant with tax regulations.
As the e-AASTHI Tax Mela continues, residents are encouraged to participate actively. By registering their properties and paying taxes promptly, citizens can contribute to the financial health of their community while avoiding potential penalties. The HDMC's efforts to streamline these processes are expected to lead to better governance and improved services for the residents of Hubballi and Dharwad.
