The Union Cabinet has approved the 26.463-kilometre Rithala-Kundli corridor as part of Delhi Metro's Phase-IV, connecting Delhi with Haryana through 21 elevated stations. The project, costing INR 6,230 crore, is set to be completed within four years. An extension of the Red Line, it will enhance connectivity to areas like Narela, Bawana, and Rohini. This will be Delhi Metro's fourth link to Haryana, joining existing connections in Gurugram, Ballabhgarh, and Bahadurgarh. With over 56% of Phase-IV construction already complete, this expansion solidifies Delhi Metro's global standing while improving regional transit and daily commuting for millions.
The Union Cabinet recently approved the 26.463-kilometre Rithala-Kundli corridor as part of Delhi Metro's Phase-IV project, aimed at improving connectivity between Delhi and Haryana. The entire stretch will feature 21 elevated stations. According to a report by PTI, the decision was made during a Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the project is expected to be completed within four years from its approval. This expansion will place Delhi Metro among the three largest metro networks globally. This new line, an extension of the Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda)-Rithala (Red Line) corridor, will enhance connectivity to northwestern areas of Delhi, including Narela, Bawana, and parts of Rohini.
The estimated cost of the project stands at INR 6,230 crore. The stations on this corridor will include Rithala, various sectors in Rohini, Bawana Industrial Area, and Narela, as well as Kundli and Nathpur. This extension marks Delhi Metro's fourth connection to Haryana, joining Gurugram, Ballabhgarh, and Bahadurgarh, where services are already operational.
Construction of Phase-IV, which includes three priority corridors, is ongoing, with over 56% of work completed. It is expected that the phase will be completed in stages by March 2026. Additionally, two more corridors, spanning 20.762 kilometres, have been approved and are now in the pre-tendering phase.
Delhi Metro currently operates a total of 12 lines, covering approximately 392 kilometres with 288 stations across the National Capital Region (NCR). The system serves an average of 64 lakh passenger journeys daily, with a maximum of 78.67 lakh recorded recently.
In conclusion, with the approval of the Rithala-Kundli corridor, Delhi Metro's Phase-IV expansion will play a pivotal role in enhancing regional connectivity and streamlining transportation in the Delhi NCR region. The completion of this project will solidify Delhi's position as a global leader in metro infrastructure while ensuring faster and more efficient commuting options for the city's residents.
