Lucknow: LDA revises guidelines for solar panel installation

Synopsis

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has revised its solar panel installation guidelines to promote renewable energy. In a recent board meeting, the LDA made it mandatory for residential properties with a plot size of 1,000 square feet or more to install rooftop solar panels under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, reducing the threshold from 2,000 square feet. Additionally, the board approved plans for traffic management improvements at key intersections, including Engineering College Crossing and Atal Chowk, with a combined budget of INR 1.77 crore. The LDA also approved the construction of boundary walls at cremation sites, decorative lighting at intersections, and the provision of interest-free instalments for displaced people. Land acquisition efforts for various residential schemes were also expedited.

In a move to promote renewable energy, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) revised its solar panel installation guidelines. During its 183rd board meeting earlier this week, the LDA made it mandatory for all residential properties with a plot size of 1,000 square feet or more to install rooftop solar panels under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. Previously, this requirement applied only to plots measuring 2,000 square feet or more. LDA vice-chairman Prathmesh Kumar stated that the new mandate aimed to encourage broader adoption of solar energy and contribute to a sustainable urban environment. Homeowners planning new constructions on qualifying plot sizes will now need to incorporate rooftop solar systems in their building plans.


Additionally, the board approved plans to remodel 11 key intersections to alleviate traffic congestion, with an estimated budget of INR 10 crore. Kumar highlighted that heavy traffic at Engineering College Crossing and Atal Chowk, particularly during peak hours, necessitated the redesign. Engineering College Crossing will be upgraded at a cost of INR 1.52 crore, while Atal Chowk will undergo improvements valued at INR 75 lakh. The upgrades will include road construction, median expansion, enhanced central islands, new footpaths, road markings, and the installation of signboards.

Furthermore, the LDA will construct a 2.75-metre-high boundary wall around two cremation sites in Jankipuram (Sector-G) at a cost of INR 60 lakh to resolve disputes between locals and villagers. Decorative and LED lighting will be installed at intersections for INR 94 lakh, with contractors responsible for their maintenance for three years. The board also decided to offer interest-free instalments to people displaced from Akbarnagar, Bhikhampur, and Butler Palace, who have been resettled in Basantkunj and Priyadarshini Colony.

Efforts to expedite land acquisition for various residential schemes, including IT City, Wellness City, Sitapur Road, and other areas, were also approved to accelerate development in these regions. Additionally, the board resolved issues related to Army land within the Green Corridor, agreeing to provide equivalent land in exchange for the acquired area. For the implementation of the Mohan Road scheme, which aims to connect it with the Outer Ring Road, land owned by the forest department will be exchanged to complete the 60-metre road.

The Lucknow Development Authority's revised guidelines aim to foster the adoption of solar energy, contributing to a more sustainable urban environment. The move to install solar panels on all residential properties with a plot size of 1,000 square feet or more aligns with the government's renewable energy goals. Furthermore, the infrastructure upgrades, including traffic management at busy intersections, the construction of boundary walls at cremation sites, and the provision of interest-free instalments for displaced residents, highlight the LDA's commitment to improving urban living conditions. The expediting of land acquisitions for key residential schemes is expected to fast-track development in various parts of the city.
