Yusen Logistics India, part of Japan's NYK Group, has signed a long-term lease with Macrotech Developers for nearly 200,000 sq. ft. of warehousing space in Palava, near Mumbai. This built-to-suit facility, under Lodha Industrial & Logistics Parks, aims to enhance the company's distribution network in India and aligns with its strategy to expand in key logistics hubs. Yusen Logistics, operational since 2011, offers warehousing, freight forwarding, and transportation services across 20+ cities. India's warehousing sector has seen significant growth due to the e-commerce boom and the rise of third-party logistics providers, driving demand for modern logistics infrastructure.
The Indian branch of Yusen Logistics, a global leader in logistics and supply chain solutions, had entered into a long-term lease agreement exceeding five years with Macrotech Developers, a publicly listed real estate firm. This agreement involved acquiring nearly 200,000 square feet of warehousing space at Palava, a prominent location near Mumbai.
The facility, designed specifically to meet the company's requirements, is a part of Lodha Industrial & Logistics Parks (LILP). The location was strategically selected to enhance Yusen Logistics' distribution network within India. The Tokyo-headquartered firm is reportedly working on the necessary fit-outs at the facility and plans to commence operations in the coming months.
The move aligns with Yusen Logistics' broader objective of expanding its footprint in critical industrial and logistics hubs across the country. The company forms part of Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Group), a renowned global shipping conglomerate with extensive operations worldwide.
Yusen Logistics (India) Private Limited has been operational since its inception in September 2011 and provides a range of logistics services. These services include warehousing, freight forwarding, and transportation, catering to various locations across India. The company is reported to employ around 650 professionals and maintains a presence in over 20 cities and 84 locations nationwide. Some of the major cities where it operates include Mumbai, Gurgaon, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
In recent years, India has experienced substantial growth in the leasing of warehousing spaces. This surge is attributed to several driving factors. A significant contributor has been the rapid expansion of e-commerce, with online retailers and marketplaces requiring extensive warehousing facilities to cater to the growing demand for faster and more efficient deliveries.
Additionally, third-party logistics (3PL) providers have played a pivotal role in the expansion of India's warehousing sector. By offering specialized and efficient logistics solutions, they have helped companies streamline their supply chains and meet rising consumer demands.
This growing demand for warehousing spaces reflects the broader transformation in India's logistics landscape, fueled by advancements in technology, infrastructure development, and the changing dynamics of consumer expectations. Yusen Logistics' latest move appears to be a strategic step towards capitalizing on these opportunities and strengthening its position within the rapidly evolving sector.
