Synopsis

The Rural Development Ministry aims to sanction 10 lakh homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) in January 2025, aligning with its ambitious 2024-25 fiscal targets. With a record allocation of INR 54,500 crore, the scheme targets constructing two crore additional homes by 2029, ensuring "housing for all." Progress is steady, with 31.65 lakh homes already sanctioned this fiscal year. The ministry is also implementing monthly reviews to accelerate rural development, improve infrastructure, and enhance living conditions for underserved communities.

The Rural Development Ministry has announced plans to sanction 10 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) in January, as part of its targets for the 2024-25 fiscal year. The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve rural infrastructure and living conditions across India.

To ensure timely implementation of rural development schemes, the ministry has introduced monthly goals. The January meeting will outline the action plan for the coming month and address the backlog of houses allocated for the 2024-25 fiscal year. As part of this effort, the first installment of funds will be released to beneficiaries after sanctioning the houses.

The PMAY-G was extended for five years in August, with a target of constructing two crore additional houses between 2024 and 2029. To make the scheme more inclusive, changes have been made to its eligibility criteria, enabling more families to benefit and aligning with the goal of "housing for all."

The ministry has reported consistent budget increases for the housing scheme, with a record allocation of INR 54,500 crore for the 2024-25 financial year. Progress has been steady: out of the 42 lakh houses targeted for the year, 31.65 lakh have been sanctioned, and 4.19 lakh have been completed, including 71,000 under the PM Janman program, between June and December.

In addition to PMAY-G, other rural development initiatives such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, and the National Rural Livelihood Mission are being monitored closely to ensure timely execution and effective delivery to beneficiaries. Monthly reviews will focus on meeting defined objectives, addressing challenges, and accelerating progress across all programs.

This approach underscores the ministry's commitment to enhancing rural infrastructure and improving the quality of life for underserved communities.
