The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its anti-encroachment campaigns across various divisions, targeting unauthorised constructions in Nerul, Airoli, Koparkhairane, and Belapur. Despite prior notices issued under the Maharashtra Regional Planning and Town Planning Act, 1966, violators failed to comply, prompting NMMC to undertake demolition. Utilising advanced equipment and labour, the campaigns were spearheaded by divisional commissioners with police support. Significant fines were imposed on property owners to deter future violations. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to upholding urban planning standards and conducting more rigorous drives against illegal structures.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has recently intensified its anti-encroachment drives across various divisions, addressing multiple unauthorised constructions under the directives of senior municipal authorities.
In Nerul division, under the supervision of Commissioner Dr Kailash Shinde and Additional Commissioner Dr Rahul Gethe, a ground plus 4 RCC structure measuring approximately 3.50m x 7.20m was demolished. Despite notices issued under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional Planning and Town Planning Act, 1966, the property owners failed to address the violations, necessitating demolition. The operation was executed by a team led by Sixth Commissioner Jayant Javadekar, using technical equipment and with police assistance.
In Airoli, unauthorised RCC buildings at B-458, B-459, B-460, C-519, C-520, C-206, and C-207, Sector 2 were identified. The Airoli Department had earlier served notices to the property owners, requiring them to remove the constructions voluntarily. However, upon non-compliance, a demolition drive was organised using 8 breakers, 6 hammers, 3 gas cutters, and 20 labourers. Led by Sixth Commissioner Dr Ankush Jadhav, the operation involved personnel from G Division Airoli, H Division Digha, and F Division Ghansoli. A total penalty of INR 1,75,000 was collected from the property owners at a rate of INR 25,000 per site.
Similarly, in Koparkhairane, an unauthorised construction at SS Type, Room No. 400, Sector 7, was addressed. Notices were served under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional Planning and Town Planning Act, 1966, leading to a demolition campaign led by Sixth Commissioner Sunil Kathole and Junior Engineer Chandrakant Dhotre. A fine of INR 10,000 was collected from the property owner.
In Belapur division, multiple unauthorised constructions were also addressed. Notices issued under Sections 53(1A) and 54 of the Maharashtra Regional Planning and Town Planning Act, 1966, were ignored by owners of properties in Karave Gaon, Sector 36, and Tricity Palace in Sector 38. Joint demolition efforts by the Belapur office, NMMPA, and CIDCO teams resulted in the removal of these constructions using labourers, equipment, and police personnel.
Authorities have affirmed that such actions will be further intensified across Navi Mumbai to ensure compliance with urban planning norms and deter unauthorised developments.
The NMMC's recent actions reflect a resolute approach to tackling unauthorised constructions across Navi Mumbai. With coordinated efforts between municipal departments, law enforcement, and technical teams, these demolition drives serve as a warning to violators. Residents can anticipate a sustained crackdown on unauthorised activities in the coming days.
