Phase III of Bengaluru's Namma Metro is underway, with the Karnataka government acquiring 26,811 sq. m. of land for elevated corridors and stations between JP Nagar 4th Phase and Mysuru Road. The project impacts 197 private properties and requires 10,892 sq. m. of government land from agencies like BBMP and BDA. The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) is overseeing land acquisition for BMRCL, ensuring fair compensation for affected landowners. Spanning 32.2 km from JP Nagar to Kempapura and 12.5 km from Kadabagere to Hoshalli, Phase III aims to modernize Bengaluru's transport infrastructure and ease traffic congestion.
Bengaluru's Namma Metro Phase III is officially underway, marking a significant advance in the city's public transport infrastructure. The Karnataka government has embarked on acquiring 26,811 square meters of land to construct elevated corridors and stations that will connect JP Nagar 4th Phase to Mysuru Road. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has entrusted the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) with the responsibility of managing the land acquisition process.
This ambitious project will impact a total of 197 private properties, including vacant lots, residential buildings, and temporary structures. Additionally, an extra 10,892 square meters of government land will be required from agencies such as BBMP, BDA, and BMTC. Officials have promised that landowners will receive fair compensation following a thorough evaluation process.
Phase III will feature two extensive elevated corridors: a 32.2-kilometer stretch from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura and a 12.5-kilometer route from Kadabagere to Hoshalli. The segment connecting JP Nagar 4th Phase to Mysuru Road is part of the corridor leading to Kempapura, greatly enhancing travel convenience for residents.
Preliminary groundwork for this phase has already begun, with BMRCL conducting geo-technical surveys along the Outer Ring Road (ORR). A senior official from BMRCL emphasized that the Metro viaduct will primarily be constructed on the median of the ORR, while most land acquisitions will focus on the construction of the stations.
Officials are also addressing objections raised by landowners, conducting assessments of both land and structures. Decisions regarding compensation will be made at a later stage, with assurances that residents will receive just compensation as part of the government's acquisition plan.
In August, the central government approved the detailed project report (DPR) for Phase III. This expansion is set to address traffic challenges and improve public transport in rapidly growing areas, aligning with the broader initiative to modernize Bengaluru's infrastructure.
