The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has approved a budget of INR 8,440 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26. This budget aims to address the growing needs of the city, focusing on infrastructure development and essential services for its residents. The budget includes estimated revenue receipts of INR 4,445 crore and revenue expenditure of INR 4,000 crore, resulting in a surplus of INR 445 crore. This surplus is significant as it provides the GHMC with some financial flexibility to invest in new projects or address unforeseen expenses. In comparison, the revenue receipts for the previous fiscal year (2024-25) were initially projected at INR 5,938 crore, which included INR 1,200 crore from government grants aimed at debt servicing. However, revised estimates for the current fiscal year have lowered the expected revenue receipts to INR 4,052 crore, reflecting challenges in revenue generation.
One of the key components of the budget is the allocation of INR 2,654 crore under the H-CITI initiative, which provides capital grants to improve urban infrastructure. This funding is crucial for projects that enhance the city's technological capabilities and infrastructure resilience. The GHMC is also focusing on improving public services, including waste management, water supply, and road maintenance, as part of its commitment to making Hyderabad a more livable city.
