Synopsis

In Campuestohan, Negros Occidental, Philippines, the world's largest chicken-shaped building stands at 34.93 metres tall within the Campuestohan Highland Resort. Designed by Ricardo Cano Gwapo Tan, inspired by the Philippines' game fowl industry, the 15-room building includes all the modern amenities like air conditioning and large TVs. Tan, who bought the resort's land in 2010, created this landmark to symbolise the local strength and leave a lasting impression. Completed on 8 September 2024, it holds a Guinness World Record. Alongside the giant chicken, the resort features a wave pool, themed attractions, Bonita huts, and dinosaur figures, drawing many tourists.

In the tranquil town of Campuestohan, Negros Occidental, Philippines, a towering and unique architectural marvel captures the attention of visitors-a massive chicken-shaped building that has earned the title of the largest of its kind in the world. This remarkable structure, part of the popular Campuestohan Highland Resort, rises to an impressive 34.93 metres in height, with a width of 12.13 metres and a length of 28.17 metres. Its unique design, which includes 15 rooms equipped with modern comforts such as air conditioning, large televisions, and hot showers, offers a memorable and comfortable stay for guests seeking a one-of-a-kind experience.

The concept for the building came from Ricardo Cano Gwapo Tan, whose vision was deeply influenced by the game fowl industry that thrives in the region. This industry is a significant source of employment in the Philippines, providing livelihoods for millions, and Tan saw the rooster as a symbol of calm, strength, and presence-qualities he admired in the local culture. His goal was to create a landmark that would leave a lasting impression on visitors while paying homage to an industry close to the hearts of many Filipinos. Tan's journey began in 2010, when he and his wife, Nita, purchased the land that would eventually become Campuestohan Highland Resort. At the time, the area was remote and lacked basic infrastructure like decent roads and electricity. However, its breathtaking mountain views inspired Tan to transform it into a destination for families and tourists. Initially a quiet family project, the resort soon grew in scale, evolving into a major attraction, with the chicken-shaped building as its defining feature.

The planning for this ambitious structure took six months, requiring meticulous attention to detail and a focus on resilience, given the region's susceptibility to frequent storms and typhoons. Construction began on 10 June 2023, and after months of hard work and careful adjustments, the project reached completion on 8 September 2024. The building's impressive size and unusual shape quickly earned it a Guinness World Record as the world's largest chicken-shaped structure, adding a significant accolade to Campuestohan Highland Resort. Beyond the giant chicken, Campuestohan Highland Resort has become a vibrant tourist destination with a variety of attractions. The resort boasts a massive wave pool, three additional swimming pools, and numerous themed areas featuring dinosaur statues, cartoon figures, and colourful installations that appeal to visitors of all ages. Guests can also enjoy a restaurant, a cosy cafe, and Bonita huts for a more private retreat.

With its unique architecture and diverse entertainment options, Campuestohan Highland Resort has established itself as a distinctive stop on the Philippine tourism map. The giant chicken, symbolising both cultural pride and Tan's bold vision, has become a source of local pride, drawing travellers from around the world to experience this extraordinary blend of creativity, comfort, and cultural homage.
