The Odisha government has distributed allotment letters to 116 beneficiaries under its Affordable Housing Project (AHP) for slum dwellers. Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra led the event, highlighting the state's commitment to improving living conditions for the urban poor. Beneficiaries were allotted homes in Chandrasekharpur, Nilamadhab Awas, and Barunei Enclave through a transparent lottery system. Projects include essential amenities and aim to uplift low-income families in Bhubaneswar. With over 2,600 houses planned in Chandrasekharpur alone, the initiative represents a significant step in slum redevelopment and addressing urban housing shortages in Odisha's capital city.

The event, held on Tuesday, was led by State Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, who emphasised the government's commitment to improving living conditions for those in need. The allotment letters were distributed across three key projects: 47 for the Chandrasekharpur AHP, 36 for the Nilamadhab Awas AHP, and 28 for the Barunei Enclave AHP in Subudhipur. Minister Mahapatra emphasised the importance of home ownership in Bhubaneswar, noting that owning a house in the capital city is a dream for many. He highlighted that the government's affordable housing schemes aim to provide shelter and improve the quality of life for the urban poor.
The projects are designed to offer not just housing but also essential infrastructure and amenities. The allotment process was conducted transparently through a lottery system, overseen by an independent observer to ensure fairness.
Currently, the government is working on several housing initiatives across Bhubaneswar. Plans are in place to construct 2,600 houses on 20 acres in Chandrasekharpur, with 820 houses already completed. Of these, 737 have been allotted, while the remaining will be distributed in phases. In the Nilamadhab project, located near Care Hospital, 1,200 houses are under development, with 960 completed and 543 already allotted to beneficiaries. The remaining houses will also be allocated in subsequent phases.
Additionally, the Barunei Enclave project has seen the construction of 342 houses, with 28 already handed over to eligible recipients. The government is also redeveloping the Keshari Residency slum in Satyanagar, where 1,300 houses are planned. So far, 560 houses have been completed, and 454 families have received their allotments, with more to follow.
The Affordable Housing Project is part of a broader initiative by the Odisha government to address housing shortages in urban areas, particularly for low-income families. By focusing on slum redevelopment and affordable housing, the government aims to uplift marginalised communities and provide them with stable living conditions.
As these projects progress, the state government continues to seek ways to enhance the quality of life for its residents, ensuring that more families have access to safe and affordable housing in the capital city.
