After a year-long pause, the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) is gearing up to restart auctions for corner and intermediate sites, a crucial revenue generator. MUDA has also acquired 14 sites surrendered by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's wife, Parvathi, but these will be auctioned only after the investigation into the alleged scam concludes. The process was delayed due to the absence of a chairman, the 50:50 scam, and preoccupation with the Dasara festival. Now, with approvals pending, MUDA Commissioner AN Raghunandan has confirmed that site auctions will begin soon, offering around 200 sites across various localities.
The Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA), which had halted site auctions for the past year, is set to resume the bidding process for corner and intermediate plots soon. This initiative is a key revenue source for the urban body. Additionally, MUDA has acquired 14 sites previously surrendered by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's wife, Parvathi, but these will only be auctioned after the ongoing investigation into the alleged scam is concluded.
MUDA has traditionally set aside a selection of sites within its developed layouts to be sold at premium prices, boosting its revenue. The practice of auctioning these sites at a premium has been a long-standing tradition for several decades. However, the absence of a chairman temporarily halted the auction process. Additionally, the urban body became entangled in the 50:50 scam, causing further delays. Officers were also occupied with the Dasara festival. Now that the festival has concluded, authorities are preparing to resume the auction process and are seeking the necessary government approvals.
MUDA Commissioner AN Raghunandan confirmed their plan to begin auctioning sites to generate revenue. The board is set to hold a meeting to discuss the matter, after which a notification for the auction will be issued promptly. Typically, the urban body offers around 200 sites across different localities for online auction. The process is expected to start without delay.
The commissioner clarified that while MUDA has taken possession of the sites surrendered by Parvathi, these will not be included in the current auction list. The issue is still under investigation and sub judice. Once the inquiry is complete, the MUDA board will decide on the future of these sites. An officer noted that site auctions are MUDA's largest revenue generator.
MUDA is set to revive its crucial auctioning process, an essential source of revenue, after overcoming delays caused by leadership vacancies and investigations. Authorities are now focused on obtaining government approvals to swiftly proceed with the auctions and capitalise on the demand for premium sites across the region.
