Residents in Versova protested at Nana Nani Park against the planned removal of 530 trees for the Mumbai Coastal Road, including over 180 trees inside the park and 350 nearby. They said they had nurtured the trees for 25 years and filed formal objections against the clearance. While the BMC has promised to transplant some mature trees, locals remain doubtful due to low survival rates in previous attempts. The protest reflects concerns about balancing infrastructure development with environmental preservation and community well-being in urban areas.Read more

Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India has called on state authorities, particularly in Karnataka, to take immediate action to resolve persistent technical problems affecting the issuance of e-khata property documents in government offices. CREDAI President Harish Shenoy MS highlighted that frequent server downtimes and software malfunctions are hindering both developers and property owners from obtaining the necessary digital property certificates, causing widespread inconvenience and delays in transactions. The organisation has urged the government to fix these issues swiftly and to establish a clear timeline for issuing e-khata documents. It has also criticised a recently introduced requirement for a life certificate in every General Power of Attorney transaction, saying this rule places an undue burden on senior citizens and non-resident Indians and should be repealed.Read more

Societies in the Vastrapur locality of Ahmedabad have agreed to voluntarily surrender portions of their land to facilitate planned road widening and area development works, civic officials said. The decision follows meetings between society representatives and urban development authorities, where residents acknowledged that the expansion of the thoroughfare would improve traffic flow and accessibility. Under the agreement, affected societies will hand over small strips of land along existing alignments to allow the city's road network to be upgraded, including better connectivity to key junctions and improved pedestrian and utility facilities. The move is expected to support overall infrastructure enhancement in Vastrapur while largely preserving community interests through planned compensation and equitable negotiations between stakeholders.Read more

The Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (HRera) has directed developers Microtek Infrastructures Pvt Ltd and Deepanshu Projects Pvt Ltd to pay roughly INR 41 lakh to an NRI homebuyer and her brother for an extended delay in handing over their flat in the Greenburg project in Sector 86, Gurgaon. The adjudicating officer determined that the apartment, booked in May 2015 with possession promised by early 2017, was only offered to the buyers in mid-2018, and essential services such as electricity were installed even later, rendering it not ready for occupation at that time. Compensation awarded included amounts for loss of appreciation, mental inconvenience and litigation costs, with annual interest at 10.85 per cent due from the order date until payment. Certain claims were dismissed due to lack of documentation. This ruling reinforces the RERA framework's provision that promoters must compensate allottees when possession is delayed beyond the agreed timeline.Read more

The Rajasthan High Court has instructed the Rajasthan Housing Board to take decisive action within three weeks to remove encroachments from 87 illegal colonies in the Sanganer area of Jaipur, a bench ruling earlier this week. The directive follows a public interest petition alleging that the state government's earlier order to regularise these colonies developed on land acquired by the housing board violated previous court orders and was being improperly implemented. The court warned that the housing board's commissioner must appear personally before the bench if compliance is not achieved within the stipulated timeframe. Petitioners argued that construction in the unauthorised colonies continues unabated and that influential individuals were exploiting enforcement gaps. The original ruling, issued in August last year, had stayed the government's regularisation order and required prompt removal of illegal developments on acquired land.Read more

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has formally approved a change of land use for a land pooling area of about 40.2 hectares in Sector 8B of Planning Zone P-II in north-west Delhi, clearing the way for development under the city's Land Pooling Policy. Sector 8B becomes the first sector out of 138 identified in the policy framework to fulfil the mandatory condition of having at least 70 % contiguous pooled land, rendering it eligible for planned integrated development. The approval follows completion of statutory consultation processes and is set to be forwarded to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for formal notification. The Land Pooling Policy replaces compulsory acquisition with a voluntary land aggregation system in which landowners pool land for development and receive a share of serviced plots after infrastructure provisioning. Progress in other sectors remains contingent on landowner participation and meeting pooling criteria.Read more

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has identified more than 5,000 residential properties in the Uttar Pradesh capital that are at risk of being sealed or demolished after a survey found they were allegedly being used for commercial purposes without requisite approvals. Notices are set to be issued to the owners, giving them the opportunity to either regularise their buildings in line with the Building Bylaws 2025 or cease unauthorised commercial activity. Roadfront properties on streets of at least 24 metre width are in particular focus, where mixed use is permitted only within defined limits subject to compliance with parking and safety norms. If owners fail to take corrective action, enforcement could follow under the UP Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973, with sealing or demolition likely. The move aims to ease traffic congestion, parking issues and pressure on civic infrastructure that has been attributed to unauthorised commercial operations in predominantly residential areas.Read more

Thousands of flats and villas built by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) on the outskirts of Bengaluru are facing persistent sales headwinds, with 2,294 units still unsold years after completion despite being priced below comparable private developments. Various attempts to stimulate demand including property exhibitions, bulk-purchase discounts and a 5 per cent rebate on select projects have yielded limited interest, according to local reports. Prospective buyers and existing owners cite inadequate infrastructure and poor connectivity as key deterrents, with many layouts still lacking proper roads, street lighting and essential civic services. Maintenance concerns have also emerged in the absence of functional residents associations, while issues such as seepage in some buildings have further dampened appeal. Even villas launched three years ago have seen only 16 of 100 units sold, underscoring persistent demand challenges for BDA housing stock.Read more
