The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is developing a new rating mechanism to evaluate contractor performance across National Highways projects. A concept note proposes classifying contracts into three value tiers-from INR 100-300 crore, INR 300-1,000 crore, and above INR 1,000 crore-with ratings conducted annually. EPC and HAM projects will be assessed together, while BOT projects will be rated separately due to differing risk structures. Joint venture partners with over 26% stake will share the project's rating, and contractors involved in multiple projects will receive consolidated scores. MoRTH has invited feedback within 21 days, continuing its push for greater transparency, digital oversight and accountability in highway development.Read more

Work on the 3.2-km, four-lane elevated corridor between Teynampet and Saidapet is visibly picking up pace. With 40 of 91 piers in place, the highways department has started installing steel spans (ranging from 11 m to 30 m) brought in from Mumbai and Gujarat. Of the 91 pillars, 69 are being built over the underground metro corridor, which helps speed up the foundation work. However, delays persist near Nandanam and Teynampet due to high-voltage power-line relocation and soil-stabilisation issues. Earlier optimism for a public opening before Pongal has given way to a revised target of end-March.Read more

Pictures of a surface crack on Haiderpur flyover in Delhi circulated on social media, prompting immediate action from the PWD. The department said the crack resulted from minor settlement due to box-pushing work underneath, part of the Mukarba Chowk underpass project, and assured that structural integrity remained unaffected. Repairs were completed on the same day, restoring traffic flow. This incident highlights routine surface damages during construction operations and reinforces the need for ongoing structural audits on ageing flyovers to maintain safety while supporting city infrastructure upgrades.Read more
