State Bank of India (SBI) has completed a land agreement with the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) for developing a residential complex for its staff in Amaravati. The project will come up on 2.05 acres at Ainavolu and is planned with a built-up area of 4.46 lakh square feet. SBI plans to invest around INR 214 crore in the development. A Gujarat court has rejected the bail applications of Popular Builders owner Dashrath Patel in two separate cases involving allegations of illegal land acquisition in Ahmedabad district. The Centre and state tax authorities are working on common guidelines for documents and information required for GST registration of businesses that pass on tax credit of more than INR 2.5 lakh per month. The move aims to reduce differences in procedures followed by central and state GST formations and speed up registration processing. The proposal will be placed before the GST Council after discussions with states. Tax officials are also examining automation of GST registration cancellation and clearer grounds for cancellation. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted searches at seven premises linked to the Tashee Group and its promoter Kashi Nath Shukla in Delhi-NCR as part of a money laundering investigation arising from an alleged INR 386-crore homebuyer fraud. The searches were carried out under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), following a criminal case concerning alleged diversion of funds collected from homebuyers. The investigation is examining the financial transactions of the group, its promoter and associated entities. The case relates to allegations that hundreds of buyers were affected by financial irregularities connected with real estate projects. Around 75% of corporate occupiers surveyed by CBRE South Asia expect their office portfolios in India to expand over the next two years, indicating stronger corporate commitment to physical workplaces. The eighth edition of CBRE’s India Office Occupier Survey, conducted between April and June 2026, found that 30% of respondents expect their portfolios to grow by more than 30%, up from 18% in the previous survey. Manipal Health Enterprises, which operates Manipal Hospitals, reported a 4.2% year-on-year decline in net profit to INR 243 crore for the first quarter of FY27, even as revenue from operations increased 38.1% to INR 3,091 crore. Residents of Asawari Gruhasankul in Taloja Phase-2, Navi Mumbai, staged a protest outside CIDCO Bhawan in CBD-Belapur over persistent water shortages affecting 4,338 apartments across 51 towers. Tenants in several high-rise residential societies in Noida are being asked to pay additional monthly charges to use common amenities such as swimming pools, gyms and clubhouses, despite paying regular maintenance fees. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a special property tax recovery drive targeting around INR 2,400 crore in accumulated arrears, with a recovery goal of at least INR 1,000 crore between August 20 and September 30. Amazon India has expanded its freight operations on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) in partnership with Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd (DFCCIL), with a train flagged off from New Dadri Railway Station. Indian Railways has launched a one-year pilot of its integrated “Rail Parcel” app-based platform to provide door-to-door parcel logistics through partnerships with private service providers. South Central Railway started the pilot in February across 17 stations in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Bengaluru and Chennai. The platform brings first-mile pickup, last-mile delivery and packaging services together, while railways handle the middle-mile movement. Three private logistics partners have been onboarded through an Expression of Interest process. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is unlikely to introduce the Unit Area Method (UAM) for property tax assessment during the current financial year, despite earlier preparations to shift towards a uniform system. The Union Cabinet has approved four railway multi-tracking projects and a highway project worth a combined INR 13,041 crore across West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Bihar. The railway projects, costing INR 9,450 crore, will add about 410 km of lines across eight districts, strengthening passenger and freight capacity along the Howrah-Chennai route. India is set to approve a USD 1.2 billion incentive scheme to promote domestic manufacturing of high-value construction and infrastructure equipment, according to government sources. The scheme is expected to attract USD 1.8 billion in fresh investment and provide incentives over seven years. It will cover equipment such as tunnel boring machines, firefighting systems and elevators, while introducing local value-addition targets for machines that are currently fully imported. Chinese construction companies and Chinese-led joint ventures have secured a strong presence on the shortlist for Ethiopia Airlines’ planned new airport near Addis Ababa. Of the 33 shortlisted entries, 15 include Chinese firms or Chinese-led partnerships. The airport is expected to cost around USD 12.5 billion and could eventually handle up to 110 million passengers a year. The project includes a four-runway airport, terminal, support facilities and road links. India has expanded its transshipment air cargo network to four additional domestic origin stations and two international destinations, allowing eligible cargo to move through transit stations without mandatory re-screening. The expanded network now includes Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Hyderabad, along with London and Copenhagen. The move follows the successful Proof of Concept for domestic-to-international transshipment on the Chennai-Delhi-Frankfurt route. The Civil Aviation Ministry said the revised framework is intended to improve ease of doing business and make air cargo movement more efficient. Indian Potash Limited (IPL) is preparing to reopen the Badamba Cooperative Sugar Mill in Cuttack district, Odisha, after more than 15 years of closure, with an estimated INR 360 crore investment in revival and modernisation. The project will include a 3,500 tonnes-per-day sugarcane crushing unit, a 16 MW co-generation power plant, a 10-tonne-per-day Bio-CNG facility and a cold-storage unit. It is expected to directly benefit around 10,000 farmers in Badamba block by restoring a local market for sugarcane and supporting cultivation. The revival is part of IPL’s wider strategy of bringing closed cooperative sugar mills back into operation and strengthening the agricultural value chain. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has invited single women living within its jurisdiction to register for benefits under welfare schemes being developed as part of Maharashtra’s proposed policy for single women. The initiative follows a May 22, 2026 government resolution issued by the Women and Child Development Department, which established a committee to prepare a policy addressing the social, economic, educational, legal, health and rehabilitation-related concerns of single women. NMMC has asked eligible women to register at their nearest ward office by August 25, 2026. The category includes widows, legally divorced women, abandoned women, unmarried adult women living alone, and women with disabilities or others living alone due to difficult circumstances. Sundaram Home Finance is expanding its Emerging Business (EB) segment in Andhra Pradesh, targeting disbursements of INR 150 crore in the state during FY27, compared with around INR 50 crore recorded in FY26. The housing finance company plans to double its EB branch network in Andhra from around 10 to 20 branches, with most new outlets planned in smaller towns. It has already opened a branch in Chittoor as part of the expansion and expects to hire around 60 employees for the segment in the state. The company is linking the expansion to increasing industrial activity and potential housing demand in Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns. India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) has maintained a neutral outlook for India’s transport infrastructure sector for FY27, citing stable operational assets and healthy growth in highway toll revenue. The agency expects higher NHAI road awards through the hybrid annuity and build-operate-transfer models, a strong InvIT ecosystem and steady domestic air traffic to support the sector. However, delays in under-construction HAM projects and near-term pressure on aviation traffic remain concerns. Road InvIT assets under management stood at INR 3,168 billion as of March 2026 and could reach around INR 6,000 billion by FY30.Read more
