HDFC Bank is considering an appeal against the NCLT order approving a repayment plan in the insolvency case involving media baron Subhash Chandra. The bank said only 3.2 per cent of its total claim of INR 680 crore was admitted under the order. It had opposed the resolution and voted against it. The NCLT approved a plan under which Chandra will pay around INR 6.5 crore against admitted creditor claims exceeding INR 22,000 crore, resulting in a 99.97 per cent haircut for lenders. The Reserve Bank of India has allowed banks to access its dollar-rupee swap facility more than once a week for large transactions involving Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank) deposits, according to currency traders. Gaurs Group expects sales bookings of around INR 5,500 crore in the current financial year, supported by a strong pipeline of residential launches in Noida and along the Yamuna Expressway. The company plans to launch three to four housing projects by March next year. It has also partnered with Seaform Germany to procure premium modular kitchens and wardrobe solutions worth INR 150 crore over five years, covering more than 10,000 kitchens across its projects. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate have launched a 11-bed de-addiction and rehabilitation centre at the Mother Teresa building in Sector 8, CBD Belapur, to provide treatment, counselling and rehabilitation support to people affected by substance dependence. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the facility virtually from D Y Patil University of Excellence, Nerul, during the launch of the Navi Mumbai Police’s ‘Campus Connect’ campaign under the ‘Drug-Free Navi Mumbai’ initiative. The centre will be operated by Bandhilki Foundation and will provide rehabilitation, life-skills, vocational training, skill development, recreational and patient-support programmes. The National Company Law Tribunal’s approval of a repayment plan for Essel Group founder Subhash Chandra should not be viewed as a 99.97% write-off of Rs 22,006 crore in bank loans, according to sources citing the insolvency court’s order. The admitted amount represents claims against Chandra as a personal guarantor for loans taken by Essel/Zee-linked companies, rather than debt personally borrowed by him. The approved plan provides for around Rs 6.25 crore from Chandra’s personal estate, while the underlying corporate borrowers remain liable for their debts and are expected to make payments of about Rs 1,494 crore.Read more
