The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has introduced a new infrastructure dashboard covering 11 sectors and 116 indicators to improve performance tracking and policymaking. Based on the PAIMANA framework, the system evaluates not just output but also access, quality, utilisation, affordability and financial efficiency. It brings together data from sectors such as power, roads, railways, telecom, aviation and ports. The dashboard reflects steady progress across key segments and will be updated quarterly, with the next update scheduled for July 16, 2026, to ensure continuous monitoring.
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has rolled out a performance monitoring dashboard to track infrastructure development across 11 sectors. The platform has been developed under the PAIMANA framework, which was introduced earlier to strengthen monitoring of infrastructure projects and has now been expanded into a broader evaluation tool.
The dashboard tracks performance using 116 indicators across sectors such as power, roads, railways, telecommunications, civil aviation and ports. Unlike earlier systems that focused mainly on output indicators like production or capacity addition, the new framework measures infrastructure across multiple parameters including access, quality, utilisation, affordability and financial performance. Officials indicated that the aim is to provide a more complete view of how infrastructure is functioning on the ground.
This approach marks a shift in infrastructure assessment, where the focus is not only on creation of assets but also on how effectively they are being used and whether they remain accessible and cost-efficient. The system is expected to help identify gaps at an early stage and improve decision-making by enabling better allocation of resources across sectors.
Data available on the dashboard shows steady progress across key sectors. In civil aviation, passenger traffic reached around 20.2 crore during the current financial year period, reflecting sustained demand for air travel. Cargo movement also recorded growth, indicating improving logistics activity. The power sector continued to maintain stable performance, meeting peak demand with minimal shortfall and reflecting improved grid reliability.
Telecommunications infrastructure has expanded significantly, with around 8.48 lakh towers supporting wider digital connectivity across urban and rural areas. In the road sector, electronic toll collection has increased, pointing to higher adoption of digital systems and smoother traffic movement on highways. Railways have shown improvements in operational efficiency, including better punctuality and increased passenger movement.
Ports and waterways have also seen capacity expansion, supporting the government's focus on improving multimodal logistics and reducing transportation costs. The integration of different transport modes is being tracked more closely under the new system, which is expected to support long-term infrastructure planning.
The ministry stated that the dashboard will be updated every quarter to ensure regular tracking of performance. The next update is scheduled for July 16, 2026. The platform also builds on earlier monitoring systems by bringing different datasets into a single interface, improving coordination between ministries and enabling quicker identification of delays or inefficiencies in project execution.
