NASSCOM has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on workplace misconduct following allegations of sexual harassment at Tata Consultancy Services Nashik office. The case involves complaints by eight female employees, leading to a police investigation and multiple arrests. The company's leadership has initiated an internal probe, while authorities have constituted a special investigation team. Nasscom stated that such incidents are treated with seriousness and described them as isolated rather than systemic across the industry. The development has drawn attention to workplace safety frameworks, compliance mechanisms, and grievance redressal processes within India's technology sector, particularly in large IT services firms operating across multiple locations.
NASSCOM has reiterated its position on workplace safety and misconduct following allegations of sexual harassment at the Nashik office of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), as the company initiated an internal investigation and law enforcement authorities carried out arrests in the past week. The industry body stated that such incidents are treated with seriousness and do not reflect a systemic pattern across the sector.
The case emerged after eight female employees at the Nashik facility filed complaints alleging sexual harassment and coercion by senior colleagues, along with claims that their concerns were not addressed adequately by the human resources department. The matter prompted police action, with a special investigation team constituted to examine the allegations. Authorities subsequently arrested seven individuals, including a member of the company's HR team.
In response to the developments, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, described the allegations as gravely concerning and indicated that the company had initiated a detailed internal inquiry. The investigation is being led by Arathi Subramanian, with the objective of establishing facts and identifying individuals responsible. The company also stated that disciplinary action had already been initiated against certain employees and that it is cooperating with ongoing investigations.
Nasscom, in its statement, emphasised that the Indian technology industry operates under established governance frameworks and maintains defined standards for employee conduct and safety. It indicated that companies across the sector have preventive and redressal mechanisms in place, supported by statutory compliance requirements, to address complaints in a timely and structured manner.
The industry body further stated that instances of misconduct are handled through formal processes, with organisations taking disciplinary action in line with internal policies and legal frameworks. It added that maintaining safe and accountable workplaces remains a priority across the sector, supported by codes of conduct and monitoring systems.
The case has drawn scrutiny towards workplace practices in large IT services firms, particularly in relation to grievance redressal and internal escalation mechanisms. While Nasscom maintained that such incidents are isolated, the developments have prompted closer attention to implementation of policies at the operational level.
TCS indicated that it will take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation and implement corrective measures where necessary. The company also stated that it adheres to a zero-tolerance approach towards misconduct and will enforce strict action against those found responsible following due process.
The investigation by law enforcement authorities and the company's internal review are currently underway, with further updates expected as the probe progresses.
