Websol Renewable Private Limited will invest INR 3,538 crore to set up an 8 GW integrated solar manufacturing facility at Naidupeta in Andhra Pradesh, strengthening the state's clean energy and industrial base. Spread across 120 acres, the project will include 4 GW each of solar cell and module manufacturing, developed in two phases starting production in 2027 and 2028. The facility is expected to create around 2,000 direct jobs and will be supported by a 100 MW captive solar power plant. Backed by customised state incentives, the project adds momentum to southern Andhra Pradesh's emergence as a key solar manufacturing hub, supported by port connectivity, logistics infrastructure, and rising domestic and export demand.
Websol Renewable Private Limited will invest INR 3,538 crore to set up an 8 gigawatt integrated solar manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant addition to the state's clean-energy and industrial manufacturing landscape.
The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the greenfield project at MPSEZ Naidupeta in Tirupati district. The facility will comprise 4 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity and 4 GW of solar module capacity. According to a government order, the project is expected to generate direct employment for around 2,000 people.
The manufacturing complex will be developed in two phases over an area of about 120 acres. Commercial production is scheduled to begin in July 2027 for the first phase and July 2028 for the second phase. To support cost-efficient and sustainable operations, land has also been allocated for a dedicated captive solar power plant spread across nearly 300 acres. In addition, Websol plans to install a 100 MW captive solar power facility to meet the project's energy requirements.
Naidupeta and the southern Andhra Pradesh Tamil Nadu industrial corridor are emerging as an important solar manufacturing cluster. Several major players, including Premier Energies, Tata Power and Voltsun, are setting up large-scale facilities in the region. The area benefits from proximity to ports, established logistics infrastructure and a growing ecosystem of component suppliers, making it attractive for export-oriented manufacturing.
As part of the approval, the state government has sanctioned a customised incentive package under the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Development Policy 2024-29. The incentives include allotment of 123.45 acres of land at a concessional rate of INR 60 lakh per acre, investment subsidy of up to 48.5 per cent of fixed capital investment capped at INR 1,552.97 crore, and power tariff reimbursement of INR 1 per unit for 10 years, limited to INR 202.36 crore. The project will also receive exemption from electricity duty for 10 years, 75 per cent subsidy on industrial water charges, and exemption from stamp duty.
Sohan Lal Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Websol Energy System, said the project aligns with India's renewable energy goals and the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. He said Andhra Pradesh offers a supportive industrial ecosystem that enables large-scale manufacturing and long-term growth in solar cells and modules.
Welcoming the investment, Andhra Pradesh Industries, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh said the project reinforces the state's position as a competitive destination for clean-energy manufacturing. He added that fast land allotment, coordinated approvals and reliable power infrastructure are helping global and domestic companies move quickly from planning to execution.
The new facility will significantly expand Websol's manufacturing footprint from its existing capacity of 1.2 GW in solar cells and 550 MW in solar modules. The expansion comes at a time when domestic demand for photovoltaic equipment is rising, driven by utility-scale renewable projects, rooftop solar adoption and export opportunities.
With increasing investments across the solar value chain, including wafers, cells, modules and captive green power, Andhra Pradesh is steadily positioning itself as a major hub for renewable-energy manufacturing, industrial development and green employment.
